TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE SURFTECH CO. GO TO WWW.SURFTECH.COM WHY OFFER SURFTECH / INFINITY WAVE SKIS ? I have shaped over 1000 polyester wave skis in the last ten years. They have really been available to only local guys who live near my shop. They are so time consuming to shape and glass that I could not take on any dealers. In 2002, I shaped two Infinity surfboard models for Surftech. When we received the first production, epoxy Surftech Infinity Surfboards, I was impressed with the excellent quality, lightweight and strength of their construction technique. I realized that their foam sandwich, epoxy construction was perfect for a wave ski. The problem that I have always had shaping skis from a urethane foam surfboard blank is thickness. Often, I was unable to get adequate floatation for a big guy’s wave ski. Also, it is more difficult to make a ski with an adjustable leg length, so most custom skis are made for only one size person. With the opportunity to create a molded epoxy composite ski with Surftech, I could create two models with adequate floatation and adjustable leg length to cover nearly every wave ski surfers needs. You can read more about wave ski design in the other wave ski sections of this web site.
WHY ARE THE SURFTECH WAVE SKIS SO GOOD? Unlike other molded surf kayaks available, these Surftech models have precisely formed rails and edges. They have a flawless finish. The complex epoxy composite construction is a very light Styrofoam core with high-density foam around the fin boxes and strap inserts. The entire skin is a “sandwich” of epoxy fiberglass with a tough high density Clegicell foam center. This three-layer skin is vacuum laminated over the entire surface of the skis including the rails, concaves, foot well and seat. No other wave ski in the world can claim such exotic construction. This is the strongest, stiffest a nd lightest construction available and it has by far the best detailed finish. WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE? 9’ wave ski: $1300 9’6” wave ski: $1450 Actually, they are incredibly inexpensive when you consider that they are exactly the same price as my polyester wave skis, but with so much more to offer. If I were to make a ski like this by hand the price would be more than $3500. The Surftech skis are 10 lb. lighter and more ding resistant than polyester skis. If you are a person who does not want to ride a rubbery, $500, roto-molded surf kayak, but would prefer the very best technology available then this is the equipment for you. You are an adult, you work hard for your toys and every moment that you spend out on the water on a kayak that you can barely control is a waist of your valuable time. Just get the best equipment! BOARD PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS The Infinity Stinger wave ski design is a breakthrough design for wave ski surfers. The design is so unique that it has been granted patent #DVH0186 by the US government. Experienced wave skiers have found that this design paddles faster, catches waves easier and turns with more power than other designs they have owned. A wave ski is turned from the center of the board from a point on the rail adjacent to the seat. The “stinger” rail cutaway and concave create a pivot point on the rail that makes a turn precise and powerful. In addition, the concave hooks onto a wave face preventing slide outs in steep, fast sections. The Stinger design has been combined with measured rocker and V – bottom. It has been tested, refined and proven best for over a decade.

If you are new to surfing or an accomplished stand up surfer, riding a wave ski can open up to you new visions and possibilities in surfing. It offers diversity to your surfing routine. Wave ski surfing is easier than stand up surfing. You have a lower center of gravity and you can’t fall off because you are strapped on. This fact actually allows a surfer who can’t do advanced moves standing up learn to do vertical “off-the-lip” and snappy “Round-House” maneuvers like he never dreamed possible. Wave ski surfing has actually improved my stand up surfing.
