BOARD DESCRIPTIONS: SURFTECH MODELS

The 9’ Infinity Stinger wave ski is the best all around size and shape I have ever ridden. It will accommodate a person weighing from 100 lb. to 220 lb. and from 5’ to 6’4” in height. It is a California long ski, not an Aussie short ski so it paddles fast and catches waves easily. It excels in big, gnarly surf, but is quick and responsive in small surf. This ski is very high performance and relatively narrow, so it will take a few rides to get used to. The narrowness however, translates into power and speed. A narrow ski will bank up onto the rail and carve a turn like a slalom snow ski. The Stinger rail and concave give the rail both bite and a pivot point. This patented design is so logical that it makes other wave skis out dated.

The 9’6” Infinity Stinger: This is the same patented design as the 9’ ski, but it is made to float a man from 180 lb. to 260 lb. The adjustable footrest will adapt to a persons height from 5’6” to 6’6”. It’s width and thickness offer more stability so a big guy or a beginner can get right on it with out fighting to keep their balance. The advanced hull design will allow you to do powerful surfing maneuvers. This ski is so responsive that it is perfect for anyone to learn on and the very best for a big guy to do advanced surfing on.

HOW CAN I TRY ONE OUT?

If you can get to southern Calif., you can contact me at the Infinity Surf Shop and demo a ski at San Onofre wave ski beach. You can also request that your local kayak or surf shop order some Infinity wave skis for their inventory. Often a shop will provide a ski as a demo for prospective customers.

WHY RIDE A WAVE SKI INSTEAD OF A SIT INSIDE RIVER OR SURF KAYAK?

I have to say that the riverboat crowd is the most stubborn group of sportsmen I’ve ever known. They are just sooo comfortable in their sit inside boats. From what I can see, they have excellent water skills and have fun simulating surfing on river waves, but most don’t want to learn what surfing a real wave is all about. Their riverboats are just too slow to ride an ocean wave properly. I would like to point out the advantages of a wave ski: First of all is the launch. Many of the surf spots around the world are deep-water starts because of the rocky beach. 2. Things don’t always go as planned in the surf, you can get hit by several waves in a row, start blowing your roles and have to bail out. No problem on a ski, you just climb on again when things calm down. With a sit inside kayak, all of your loose padding falls out of the cockpit. You have to swim the kayak back to the beach before you can empty the water out. 4. I always drink coffee before I go out and I always have to pee about 3 minutes after entering the water. No problem on a ski, I just do a quick Eskimo role and flush out the system. 5. I don’t have to walk around in the goofy skirt thing.

As far as the clunky roto-molded sit on top surf kayaks go, they are nearly impossible to steer, they don’t have a surfboard type bow or rail and the fins are usually in the wrong place. Generally, people who don’t ride waves design them.

HOW CAN I BUY ONE

First, it is always better to support your local dealer, who will in turn sell more skis and create more friends for you to surf with, but if your local dealer won’t come on board then we can ship directly to you. You can contact Steve by email at: infinsurf@aol.com.

Or call the shop: 949-661-6699.
