This is a review of my new 10'9" Kuku Hoe noserider model. Wow. This is the best SUP board I have ever tried and I have tried a lot of boards. First the board is based on one of the best longboard shapes out there: the Rad Noserider.
Steve's boards seem to ride smoother and turn more crisply than other shapers. This is my second board from Steve and it's a little smaller in every dimension but it still floats me great and the performance is fantastic. Noserides great too. Compared to other boards I've tried it seems to me that the V bottom, thickness flow, rocker, pulled in rounded pin tail and hard tucked rails of Steve's noserider SUP boards really give you a product that is stable and also turns really well. I'm a fairly heavy guy-225-230lbs and this board really works for me. Something that I also appreciate is the great job that the Infinity job does with the deck pads and Ultradeck that you can opt for on the Kuku Hoe's. I really like how versatile this model is too. The board surfs well off the tail and it is so stable and smooth on the nose. From 2ft clean peelers to several feet overhead so far this board has handled it all.

I've been going out with the Kukuhoe Noserider and, as I said before, keep on falling in love with the board more every time I ride it. I wish I didn't have to work so I can SUP all the time. I feel that the 11 feet Noserider is a versatile board because it is stable enough for beginners to learn and flows very well that experienced SUPers would still want to use it after honing their skills.
I am very impressed at how well the board paddles, it paddles far better, even at prone position, than any of my longboards (this is no small feat because the board is 28 inches wide). I especially love how the rails interact with the water when you're trimming, it feels very solid and stable, like a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado. It holds very well high up on the wave. In addition to stability, this board also turns really well and smooth, even at 11 feet and 4.75 inches thick.
Every time I go out with the Kukuhoe, I am more pleased that I bought one of your wares. People also speak highly of your shaping skills, experience, and knowledge. I can see that when I ride the board in various conditions.

I just want to share my experience from my first summer SUP surfing. Overall it is a fantastic experience! I ordered my Infinity 11'*28" board in Jan. 2007 and logged about 50 days - 35 on the ocean and about 15 on the lake in the flat water. This board worked fantastic for me, very stable design - I don't know the magic that Steve puts in it and I am a complete beginner (I never surfed before) but this magic really works! I started out riding in the white water, but i have worked my way up to over head surf.
Another thing is that Steve answers his email immediately (and I have sent a LOT of questions to him before I ordered the board and after I started to surf it) and always to the point. I really have a feeling that he is personally working with me (and I know for a fact how busy he is). He does a custom job - e.g. he installed a mast track to acommodate my request and extra plugs (so I can windsurf it if I would like to). And the custom abstract on the bottom is fantastic. When my zipper on my board bag broke Steve ordered a replacement and sent it to me promptly.
Another thing that I want to mention is durability. I read on the forums about sandwich and different technology and differences between production and custom and scuffs on the rails and dings from the paddle and paint chipping. Yeah, I admit, no matter how hard I try not to, I bang my rails time to time, but there are no scuffs on my Infinity. Overall I can recommend this board wholeheatedly to any beginner.

Steve, I just wanted to send a comment on the 9’6” SUP that you shaped for me. To be honest with you I was a little wary of ordering a board from CA. sight unseen, but I had seen your boards at the Hawaiian South Shore shop here in Honolulu and the quality of the boards I had seen in their shop looked good. Not to mention you guys have been in the biz a few days. Right?!? I ordered the nose rider model and the board completely exceeded my expectations as far as the shape and finish quality goes and more importantly it paddles great and surfs awesome. Everything was a class act from taking my order to shipping.
All combined that is a rare thing you have there. A quality product made here in the U.S. that exceeds your customer’s expectation combined with good customer service where you speak to an English speaking person. Thanks again.
Aloha Darren |
